Mysterious and Spooky

I didn’t see either Addams Family movie when I was a child. All I remember seeing was a trailer for Addams Family Values. Later on I saw both movies back-to-back on TV. I enjoyed both, but I actually prefer the sequel a lot more. Addams Family Values has about three different plot points. All of which are much more interesting than the previous storyline. The first storyline centers around Morticia giving birth to a new Addams baby. The second once again involves Uncle Fester. His love life to be specific. With a seductively homicidal gold digger (a perfect match). The third is set further away from the Addams estate. Wednesday and Pugsley are sent to a bright and sunny camp in order to avoid suspicion. Christina Ricci once again proves herself to be the best part of either movie. The macabre jokes have also gotten much funnier. This portion of the film is such a stark contrast that you can actually label it a summer camp movie and even a Thanksgiving movie (for the play that they put on). This was also sadly the last film Raúl Juliá got to see before his death. Gomez was a role he was born to play. Addams Family Values definitely sees the value in the gloriously gothic cast they’ve assembled.
